General Interface

This page describes the parts of the Designer interface that are common to designing all elements.

Tiles

The tiles on Designer's home page give you access to the features in Designer.

Tip: We recommend that you start using Designer by opening Desktop Designer.

Element Lists

When you open a tile, you’ll see a listing page of existing elements (in other words, a list of existing desktops, scripts, and so on).

Here’s a description of the listing page:

Views

When you design an element, it opens as a view.

This allows you to work on multiple elements at the same time, and (in the case of desktops and data entry elements) to copy/move controls from one view to another.

Containers

In desktops and data entry elements, controls must be added to a container. The container holds the layout of the controls that you add to it.

For example, any controls added to a 100% container take up the full width of the element. A 50%-50% container, on the other hand, has two columns of equal width.

There are various two-column, three-column, and four-column containers that you can use, each with column widths of different sizes.

Note: As a responsive web application, Syntelate XA automatically adjusts content to fit the size of the user’s browser. For this reason, a two-column container, for example, may actually display its content in a single column when viewed on a phone.

Control Properties

In the Desktop Designer, Script Designer, and Data Entry Designer, when you open the Properties(Properties) for a control, the Control properties sidebar is displayed. Here is what it looks like in the Data Entry Designer:

  1. Save/cancel changes
  2. Selected control
  3. Expand property group
  4. Set property

Note: Syntelate XA automatically saves changes when you add, delete, or move a control or container. When you change a control’s properties, however, you must click Save.

Properties are organized into three groups:

  • Required: These properties must be set.
  • Optional: These properties control the look and operation of the control.
  • Actions: These properties specify the actions that Syntelate XA should perform when the agent, for example, changes the control or gives it focus.

Some controls only have properties in one or two of these groups.

Note: The Grid Designer has a similar section for Column Properties.
