Using Spell Checkers

Overview

You can use your browser's built-in spell checking tools when handling chats or emails in Syntelate XA. Some spell checkers provide guidance on grammar and punctuation as well as spelling.

Setting Up Spell Checking in Your Browser

Here are instructions for how to set the spell checker preferences in Chrome and Firefox.

Chrome

  1. Click on the settings icon (three vertical dots in a line) in the top right of the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings....

  3. On the Settings screen, expand the Advanced menu heading and select Languages.

  4. Under Language, check that the specified language is correct.
  5. Under Spell check, make sure that the slider is in the on position and click the Basic spell check radio button.
  6. Under Use spell check for, check that the language displayed at the top of the list is correct and that its slider is in the on position.
  7. Now in Syntelate XA when you are composing an email in the HTML Editor, (or a chat in the Chat message box) Chrome will underline misspelled words in red. To correct the spelling, you can either manually type the correction or right-click on the underlined word to see suggestions from the contextual menu.

Tip:

You can add a list of words to Chrome's spell checker, which is useful if your business uses unusual or uncommon words that you frequently need to refer to in email correspondence.

To add new words, in the Languages settings pane, click on Customise spell check.

Type the words in the text box and click on the Add word button.

Firefox

  1. Click on the browser Settings icon (hamburger icon).
  2. Click on Options.
  3. Scroll down to Language and Appearance and look at the Language section.

  4. Check that the specified language is correct.
  5. Select the check box labeled Check your spelling as you type (if it’s not already selected).
  6. When you are next composing an email in Syntelate XA’s HTML Editor, (or a chat in the Chat message box), the browser will underline misspelled words in red. The Check spelling option will be highlighted, indicating that the spell checker is active.

Note:

If you see an incorrect language in the dropdown, click on the Set Alternatives button.

Set an alternative language if the displayed one is not correct.

A dialog box appears. Check that your preferred language is at the top of the list.

Check that the languages are listed in your preferred order.

If the language is not displayed, click on the Select a language to add... dropdown to search for the preferred one.

Click OK to return to the Settings screen.

Click on the Apply and Restart button to save the new setting.

Apply and restart when you have selected the appropriate language.

Tip:

If the above steps do not work, you may need to install a dictionary in Firefox.

  1. Browse to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/language-tools/.
  2. Scroll down and find the dictionary you want to use as the reference for the spell checker. Click on the + Add to Firefox button.
  3. Click on the Add button of the notification pop-up.

  4. Now follow the steps listed above for setting the spell checker in Firefox.
